Mato Grosso do Sul closed the first quarter of 2016 with a 27,65% increase in export revenue compared to the same period in 2015. According to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), the state's revenue from international sales rose from US$987,581 million to US$1,260 billion in this comparison. MDIC data also showed that from January to March, soybeans ended up surpassing cellulose, which led in the first two months, as the state's main export product in terms of revenue.
The volume of soybean shipments in these three months of 2016 reached 1,062 million tons, 120% more than the 482,734 thousand tons in the same period last year. As a result of this significant increase in soybean shipments, revenue from soybean exports grew significantly in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year, 95,86%, jumping from US$ 188,692 million to US$ 369,577 million. Pulp was “dethroned” and now occupies the second position in the state’s export ranking.
Between January and March, the state sold 662,512 thousand tons of the product to the international market, with revenue of US$ 297,567 million. In third place is corn grain, with the sale of 1,162 million tons and revenue of US$ 191,792 million; in fourth place is deboned and frozen beef, with 21,053 thousand tons and a financial result of US$ 76,958 million; and in fifth place is sugar, with 190,863 thousand tons, and revenue of US$ 54,039 million.
